Sunderland People First are proud to back the bid for Sunderland to become the City of Culture in 2021.
We were overwhelmed with the response from businesses and organisations in Sunderland when we set up the safe place scheme in Sunderland two year’s ago. Safe places help vulnerable people if they get into difficulty when they are out and about in Sunderland. You will see the safe places stickers displayed in places such as The Bridges, Empire cinemas, Nexus offices and Gentoo offices.
We set up changing places in Sunderland to make sure that people with complex disabilities can use toilet facilities in Sunderland. The latest changing place has been built underneath the “Fat Buddha” on Sunderland’s sea front, to that everyone can enjoy Sunderland’s coastline safe in the knowledge that all of their needs are being looked after.
We feel that the city’s bid to become the City of Culture will promote Sunderland’s reputation as a friendly city, and encourage everyone living in Sunderland to feel welcome and involved in their communities.
